Young Women’s Summer
Camp Receives Grant from
Community Foundation’s
Dustin and Courtney Muse
Memorial Fund
JUNE 21, 2010: The
Community Foundation is pleased to announce a grant from The Dustin
and Courtney Muse Memorial fund benefiting the Frederick 1st Ward
Young Women’s Summer Camp. The camp will be held June 21-25, 2010 and
is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
According to Pamela Meehan, mother of Dustin and Courtney Muse, the
summer camp is for young women ages 12 through 18. In addition to the
curriculum providing a spiritual experience,
the camp helps the girls
acquire skills in outdoor safety, fire safety,
canoeing, hiking, and
camping.
Courtney Muse attended this camp for several years before her untimely
death in December, 2006 at the age of 13. “Courtney loved this camp
experience each year,” said Pamela Meehan. “I participated in this
awesome experience with her during her last camp visit and we shared
some wonderful mother-daughter moments. I am so happy to have had this
time with her. Courtney’s father, Don Muse, and I wanted to continue
to help other young women have this same memorable experience.”
The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund was established with the
Community Foundation by their parents along with generous
contributions from a community who wanted to honor the legacy of these
two exceptional children. The Fund provides scholarships and grants in
Dustin’s name to Governor Thomas Johnson High School scholar-athletes,
and scholarships and grants in Courtney’s name which support the
performing arts. To date, more than $48,000.00 in scholarships and
grants have been awarded from the Fund.
