Community Foundation Announces New Fund in Memory of
Preston Tarleton

JUNE 15, 2010: The Community Foundation of Frederick County announces The Preston Tarleton Memorial Fund. The Fund will provide scholarships to Brunswick High School graduating seniors, with preference given to seniors participating in baseball and who plan to continue their involvement in the sport at the post-secondary level. Applications will be accepted starting with the 2011-2012 scholarship year.

Mr. Tarleton passed away in April, 2010. He was a graduate of Brunswick High School and Shenandoah College. His love of baseball began early in life as a Brunswick Little League player, and then with the MARVA Babe Ruth team. At Brunswick High School, Mr. Tarleton played for four years as a member of the varsity team, followed by four years with the Shenandoah Hornets baseball team. He was an avid fisherman, loved attending concerts and spending time with his family and friends.

“Preston’s passing has left a huge void in our family that will never be filled” said Mark and Hypatia Tarleton, Preston’s parents and his uncles, Don and James Tarleton. “He was a wonderful young man who enjoyed life. We have established this fund with the Community Foundation to help keep his memory alive.”

The Tarleton Family will be holding fundraising events to benefit the Fund. More information will be published as details become available.
