Brunswick Community
Club House for Kids
Establishes Fund
May 19, 2010: It was a
dream that began in 1993, when community leaders in Brunswick wanted
to provide a safe-haven for unsupervised youth during after-school
hours. Elizabeth Frye, a Brunswick resident and teacher devoted to
helping children, also saw the need for an after-school program and
decided to help by making provisions for a gift from her estate to the
Brunswick Community Clubhouse for Kids, Inc. After the Board of
Directors received this generous gift from Mrs. Frye’s estate, they
contacted the Community Foundation and established The Brunswick
Community Club House for Kids Fund.
A nonprofit entity, The Brunswick Community Clubhouse for Kids, Inc.
is a successful partnership of local government, police, schools,
businesses, senior citizens, churches, community volunteers, parents,
and children. With space at the City Park Building donated by the City
of Brunswick, children ages 5 to 11 can enjoy after-school activities
five days a week in a safe, enriching environment. As an independent
public charity, it has become a model for after school recreational
programs and has received much recognition throughout the State of
Maryland.
Because of generous community support, including grants from The
Community Foundation of Frederick County, the cost for children to
participate in the after-school program is minimal at $15 per week,
with scholarships available. Most children remain involved in the
program throughout their elementary school years. In addition to
professional staff, the program is guided by a volunteer board of
directors.
Helping nonprofits secure and strengthen the future of their programs
through professional fund management is what the Community Foundation
has been doing since 1986. Those who wish to contribute to The
