Community Foundation Awards Scholarships to
Walkersville Area Students
October 6, 2009: The Community Foundation recently awarded more than
$330,000 in scholarship funding throughout Frederick County for the
2009-2010 academic year. Over 200 students received scholarships to
pursue their educational dreams, including 28 students from the
Walkersville area:
Casey Bauer, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Walkersville High School Alumni Scholarship awarded to Walkersville
High School graduating seniors. Mr. Bauer attends Centenary College.
Brittany Bowman, a 2008 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The R. Perry and Ethel Beckley Scholarship awarded to students
pursuing any major, The Elaine A. Heiberg Scholarship for the Arts
awarded to students who are interested in a career in the arts,
including visual, performing, literary, and structural areas, and The
Clayton Lenhart Memorial Scholarship awarded to residents of
Walkersville, Woodsboro, New Midway, Mount Pleasant, and Ceresville
who are former members of the FFA Chapter at Walkersville High
pursuing a career in agricultural sciences or a related field. Ms.
Bowman attends Frederick Community College.
Daniel Carter, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Matthew E. Coleman Memorial Scholarship awarded to Walkersville High
School graduates. Mr. Carter attends Frederick Community College.
Megan Cooper, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Betty Markey Hooper Scholarship awarded to Walkersville High School
seniors with preference given to those attending Hood College.
Alissa Cucina, a 2008 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Esther E. Grinage Scholarship awarded with preference given to early
childhood education majors. Ms. Cucina attends Hood College.
Kelsey Fogle, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Ralph and Annabelle Lenhart Scholarship awarded to Frederick County
residents, with preference given to students studying the building
trades, agriculture, animal science, or architecture, and The Bob and
Elizabeth Boyer Scholarship awarded to Frederick or Washington County
residents with preference given to students who are pursuing a health
related profession or the ministry, planning on working with the
elderly or studying agriculture with an interest in becoming farmers.
Ms. Fogle attends University of Maryland.
Amy Gilbert, a 2007 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Alan Linton, Jr. Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents
intending to pursue a career in finance or economics. Ms. Gilbert
attends Salisbury University.
Richard Gilbert, a 2004 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The Alliance to the Frederick County Medical Society Scholarship
awarded to Frederick County residents pursuing a career in a health
related field, and The Audrey Pressler Bauman Scholarship awarded to
Walkersville and Frederick High School graduates. Mr. Gilbert attends
Shenandoah University.
Jaime Grimes, a 2006 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Esther E. Grinage Scholarship awarded with preference given to early
childhood education majors. Ms. Grimes attends Hood College.
Shaina Hissey, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Debbie Wolfe Bradley Scholarship awarded to Walkersville High School
graduating seniors who have participated in theater, including the
Drama Club, and are pursuing a career in theater arts. Ms. Hissey
attends Point Park University.
Clinton Holley, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Frederick County High School Football 110% Scholarship awarded to
graduating high school seniors who have participated in
interscholastic football at the high school level, including their
senior year. Mr. Holley attends Salisbury University.
Allison Jean, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Disabled Citizens of Frederick County United Scholarship awarded to
Frederick County high school graduates or equivalent who have a
disability as described within the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Ms. Jean attends University of Maryland.
Anthony Kronfli, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The Rev. Dr. Rodney B. Pulliam and Rodney II, Jordan and Matthew
Pulliam Memorial Scholarship awarded with preference given to males
ages 5 to 40 and to students pursuing degrees in law, divinity, and/or
medicine, and young males with dependents, and The Dr. J. Richard
Crouse Memorial Scholarship awarded to Frederick or Washington County
graduating seniors studying dentistry, medicine, or business at the
University of Maryland. Mr. Kronfli attends University of Maryland
Baltimore County.
William Lane, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Ryan Patrick Murray Memorial Scholarship awarded with preference given
to Frederick County graduating seniors, and The Charles A. and Kathryn
Z. Nicodemus Scholarship awarded to Walkersville High School
graduating seniors. Mr. Lane attends Hood College.
Rachel Lupinetti, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The Pauline Stauffer Scholarship awarded to Walkersville High School
graduating seniors. Ms. Lupinetti attends Salisbury University.
Katherine Morgan, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The Robert E. Kelly Memorial Scholarship awarded to students pursuing
studies that will address the world’s oceans, with emphasis placed on
clean water preservation or a related field. Ms. Morgan attends St.
Mary’s College of Maryland.
Ashley Olszewski, a 2008 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The Marvin and Bonnie Laws Scholarship awarded to Walkersville High
School graduates pursuing a degree at Frederick Community College, The
Margaret E. Brust Nursing Scholarship awarded to Frederick County high
school graduates majoring in nursing, The Frederick Medical Foundation
Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents majoring in
medicine, dentistry and/or nursing, and The Martha Murphy Virts
Nursing Scholarship awarded to nursing majors.
Mandi Ramsburg, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Robert and Ann Miller Family Scholarship awarded to Frederick County
residents majoring in agriculture. Ms. Ramsburg attends Frederick
Community College.
Brittany Ramsburg, a 2005 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The R. Edward Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship awarded to Walkersville
High School graduates with preference given to students majoring in
banking, finance or economics, The Clayton Lenhart Memorial
Scholarship awarded to residents of Walkersville, Woodsboro, New
Midway, Mount Pleasant, and Ceresville who are former members of the
FFA Chapter at Walkersville High pursuing a career agricultural
sciences or a related field, and The Ralph and Annabelle Lenhart
Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents, with preference
given to students studying the building trades, agriculture, animal

Michael Ringer, a 2008 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Sandra J. Davis Memorial Scholarship awarded to Frederick County
residents with preference given to students studying nursing or a
related medical field. Mr. Ringer attends Hood College.
Kerry Santullo, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Ashley Tamburri Scholarship awarded to students who are cancer
survivors or are currently coping with a cancer diagnosis at the time
of application. Ms. Santullo attends New York University.
Allison Scott, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Charles Thomas and Mary Ellen Main Scholarship awarded to Frederick
County residents who show financial need, and academic promise. Ms.
Scott attends Grove City College.
Charlotte Thompson, a 2007 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The Russell Z. and Virginia T. Horman Memorial Scholarship awarded to
Frederick County students with preference given to applicants
intending to have careers in agriculture or public service, The Gene,
Evelyn and Ernest Barnhart Family Scholarship awarded to Frederick
County Public Schools graduates studying agriculture at University of
Maryland, The Maryland Master Farmers Scholarship awarded to students
interested in pursuing an education in agriculture or a related field,
or to farmers interested in coursework to enhance their knowledge of
the farming business, and The Robert and Ann Miller Family Scholarship
awarded to Frederick County residents majoring in agriculture. Ms.
Thompson attends University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Amy Thompson, a 2007 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Esther E. Grinage Scholarship awarded with preference given to early
childhood education majors, The Don and Rosa Rippeon Scholarship
awarded to graduates of Frederick County high schools with preference
given to students pursuing a career in early childhood education and
agriculture, and The Brandon T. Chesnik Memorial Scholarship awarded
to Walkersville High School graduates with preference given to
elementary education majors. Ms. Thompson attends Frostburg State
University.
Taylor Thompson, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The Workforce Development Board Youth Education Scholarship awarded to
recognize deserving students who are planning to pursue a career in
one of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics)
areas beyond high school who can demonstrate that they have
encountered a barrier in their educational path. Ms. Thompson attends
McDaniel College.
Brandon Wurzberger, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The Michael Schrodel Memorial Scholarship awarded to Walkersville High
School graduating seniors who are football players; however, other
student/athletes may be considered if no senior football players meet
the scholarship criteria. Mr. Wurzberger attends Penn State
University-York.
Kelly Zier, a 2009 Walkersville High School graduate, received The
Workforce Development Board Youth Education Fund awarded to recognize
deserving students who are planning to pursue a career in one of the
STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) areas beyond
high school who can demonstrate that they have encountered a barrier
in their educational path. Ms. Zier attends Virginia Tech.
Jenna Zimmerman, a 2007 Walkersville High School graduate, received
The Ramona Corun Remsberg Scholarship awarded to Frederick County
graduates with preference given to those pursuing a career in finance.
Ms. Zimmerman attends Mount Saint Mary’s University.
Since 1986, the Community Foundation has worked with individuals,
families, businesses, associations, and nonprofits to establish
charitable funds that benefit a variety of causes, including 195
scholarship funds. The Community Foundation of Frederick County
Universal Comprehensive Scholarship Application for the 2010-2011
academic year will be available beginning December 15, 2009 at
