Dance to Benefit The 1LT Rob Seidel Wounded Soldiers Fund

October 5, 2009: The public is invited to raise money to help wounded soldiers by joining friends and family members of the late 1LT Rob Seidel III for an evening of dance on Saturday, November 14. The event will take place from 8:00 p.m. until midnight at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall on DePaul Street in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Proceeds will benefit The 1LT Rob Seidel Wounded Soldiers Fund, a component fund of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

1LT Rob Seidel was a 2000 graduate of Catoctin High School, where he played football and baseball and excelled academically. Rob graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served as a platoon leader with the 10th Mountain Division in Iraq before being killed in action in Iraq on May 18, 2006.

As a platoon leader, 1LT Seidel felt a tremendous responsibility for the safety and well-being of his troops, putting their concerns above his own. To honor his memory and his commitment to others, parents Bob and Sandy Seidel established The 1LT Rob Seidel Wounded Soldiers Fund to support charities that provide direct services to military veterans of the war against terrorism. The Fund provides assistance with medical treatment, housing, psychological counseling, physical and occupational therapies, companionship, mentoring, and employment training. To date, $25,000 in grants from the Fund have been distributed in 1LT Seidel’s memory.

Music at the November 14 dance will be provided by Denny and Elaine Ebaugh of Classic Affairs D.J.’s. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and attendees must be age 21 or older. The event is BYOB, with setups and light fare provided. Tickets are $10 per person and may be obtained by calling Sandy Seidel at 717-334-5761 or Arlene Pittinger at 301-447-3368.

Those unable to attend the dance may still support The 1LT Rob Seidel Wounded Soldiers Fund. To make a secure online contribution, click here. Checks made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County with the Fund’s name in the memo line may be mailed to 312 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701.
