Scholarship Applications Available
Beginning December 15;
Information Sessions to be held in January

December 14, 2009: The Community Foundation of Frederick County is pleased to announce that beginning December 15 scholarship applications are available for the 2010-2011 academic year. By completing one Universal Scholarship Application, available online at www.cffredco.org, applicants will be considered for more than 180 available scholarships. All guidelines and eligibility requirements are listed on the application.

Students about to complete their senior year of high school, students already enrolled in a trade school, college or university, and non-traditional students over the age of 21 are eligible to apply. Scholarships are for residents of Frederick County, Maryland, studying on a full-time basis, unless otherwise noted in a specific scholarship description on the List of Scholarships, also located on the Community Foundation website.

“All students are encouraged to apply for scholarship support,” states Elizabeth Y. Day, Community Foundation President. “It is important to note that approximately 60 percent of the Community Foundation’s scholarships consider financial need as a part of the selection criteria, while the other 40 percent place emphasis on other criteria such as field of study, academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, and educational institution.”

Completed Universal Scholarship Applications are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2010, at the Community Foundation at 312 East Church Street in Frederick. Applications or necessary attachments received after the submission deadline will not be considered.

So that students and families can learn more about the scholarship application process, the Community Foundation will hold two convenient, one-hour Saturday programs in January. “How to Apply for Community Foundation Scholarships” will provide useful information on guidelines and scholarship-specific criteria. The first program will be held on Saturday, January 9, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon in the Community Room of the C. Burr Artz Public Library located at 110 East Patrick Street in Frederick. The second program will be held in the Community Room of the Urbana Regional Library located at 9020 Amelung Street in Urbana, on Saturday, January 16, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Seating is limited and pre-registration for either or both programs is suggested by calling the Community Foundation at 301.695.7660 or by emailing ds.assistant@cffredco.org. Frederick County Public Libraries does not promote or endorse the views or the program sponsors or presenters.
