Local Media Supports Community
Foundation
Public Awareness Campaign
November 18, 2009: Members of the local
media joined forces in helping The Community Foundation of Frederick
County launch a six-month public awareness campaign that promotes the
merits of local giving. The campaign, which includes newspaper,
magazine, radio, television and transit advertising, examines the
breadth of the Community Foundation’s philanthropic impact in
Frederick County, educating the public of its ability to support one
of the Community Foundation’s 600 active funds or to establish a fund
that responds to a personal interest.
“The Community Foundation is the vehicle to bring an individual’s
charitable desire to life – whether their particular interest involves
the arts, education, health and social services, historic
preservation, animal welfare or any other area that provides a benefit
to our community,” said Andy Carpel, Chairman of the Community
Foundation Board of Trustees. “Furthermore, the Community Foundation’s
component funds not only benefit the community now but in perpetuity,
because the funds are invested and only a portion of the funds are
disbursed annually.” In Fiscal Year 2009, The Community Foundation of
Frederick County awarded $3.8 million in grants and scholarships to
nonprofit organizations and deserving college-bound students in
Frederick County.
The public awareness campaign was organized and enacted by the
Community Foundation’s Marketing Committee, chaired by Scott Grove, a
past Community Foundation trustee. “Frederick County’s remarkable
quality of life is in large part attributable to the philanthropy of
our many generous citizens. Our local media has been equally generous
in promoting the importance of philanthropy and collectively
contributed more than $55,000 in print placement, radio and television
air time,” said Elizabeth Y. Day, President of the Community
Foundation. “Over the course of the six-month campaign, hundreds of
thousands of local residents will be made aware of the impact that the
Community Foundation has on all our lives.”
Local media participating in the campaign, which is now in progress,
consist of Comcast Cable, The Frederick Gazette, Frederick Magazine,
KEY 103 Radio, and WFMD/WFRE Radio. Grove also expressed his
appreciation to others who helped make the campaign possible. These
include local attorney Michael Day, Esq., who will air the spot as
part of his NBC-25 television show, “Contemporary Retirement;” Andy
Carpel, president of Carpel Video, which produced the television spot;
Kurt Holter, local photographer; and Larry Viehmeyer, director of
sales at Key 103 Radio, whose staff produced the radio spot.
