Community Foundation Establishes
Frederick County Professional Advisor Council
February 10, 2009: As a recognized philanthropic leader since 1986, The Community Foundation of Frederick County is leading the way in establishing The Frederick County Professional Advisor Council for area accountants, wealth managers, CPAs, attorneys, insurance professionals, and trust officers to provide educational and networking opportunities that support charitable giving and philanthropy throughout Frederick County.
“Professionals from a cross-section of disciplines have been instrumental in charting the course for this new initiative,” said Elizabeth Y. Day, Community Foundation President. “We are pleased that members of the Charting Committee have volunteered their precious time and considered expertise in helping to create what will be a dynamic Professional Advisor Council so that area advisors will have the tools and support in advancing philanthropy with their clients.”
Charting Committee members include Douglas Boyle, CPA, Boyle and Company; Carl Hildebrand, CPA, Hildebrand, Limparis and Associates; Attorney Patricia Jividen; Matthew McGreevy, Vice President, Wealth Management, Hendrickson Group at Smith Barney; Kathy Schultze, Insurance Agent, State Farm Insurance; Attorney James Shoemaker, Shoemaker, Horman & Clapp; Andrea Voeglein, Vice President, PNC Wealth Management; Community Foundation Board Chairman Katherine Costlow and Marketing Committee Chairman Scott Grove.
A kick-off dinner event of the Frederick County Professional Advisor Council will be held on Thursday, April 30, at Dutch’s Daughter, from 5-7 p.m., and will feature noted Baltimore-based Attorney Jonathan Ackerman. Mr. Ackerman will offer hands-on tips for beginning a charitable giving dialogue with clients, discuss the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach in working with them, and will review legislative changes on the horizon in 2010.
For the past 23 years, Jonathan Ackerman has developed considerable experience in the areas of charitable gift planning, tax-exempt organizations, charitable solicitations laws, federal corporate and partnership taxation, estate planning and probate, IRS practice and procedure, real estate and business formations and transactions. He is a frequent speaker on the topics of charitable gift planning and tax-exempt organizations and has published articles in The Journal of Gift Planning, the Planned Giving Design Center, the American Bankers Association Journal, and the Maryland State Bar Journal. He has served as past president of both the National Committee on Planned Giving and the Chesapeake Planned Giving Council and is currently a member of the Baltimore Estate Planning Council.
“Mr. Ackerman is a well-known expert in all aspects of charitable gift planning. We are delighted that he will be the keynote speaker at our April 30 kick-off event,” said Charting Committee member Andrea Voeglein. “Charitable giving is key to long-term community well-being, and the Frederick County Professional Advisor Council will be a new resource to help professional advisors maximize the power of gift planning.”
