Community Foundation Awards Scholarships to
Linganore Area Students

October 16, 2009: The Community Foundation recently awarded more than $330,000 in scholarship funding throughout Frederick County for the 2009-2010 academic year. Over 200 students received scholarships to pursue their educational dreams, including 16 students from the Linganore area:

Patrick Balderson, a 2009 Linganore High School graduate, received The Frederick County High School Football 110% Scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors who have participated in interscholastic football at the high school level, including their senior year. Mr. Balderson attends University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Matthew Carignan, a 2007 Linganore High School graduate, received The Dr. Lawrence C. Hoyer Memorial Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents who have attended Frederick Community College. Mr. Carignan attends Maryland Institute College of Art.

Danika Coaplin, a 2009 Linganore High School graduate, received The Linganore High School Alumni Scholarship awarded to Linganore High School graduates. Ms. Coaplin attends Catholic University of America.

Catherine Codd received The Charles E. Keller, III Accounting Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents majoring in accounting. Ms. Codd attends University of Maryland University College.

Andrew Hodgkins, a 2009 Linganore High School graduate, received The U. Mehrl and Margaret T. Hooper Scholarship awarded to Frederick County students studying at trade or technical schools, and The George Wesley Gilbert Memorial Scholarship awarded to Frederick County Public School graduates continuing their education at trade or technical schools. Mr. Hodgkins attends Wyotech.

April Inskeep, a 2007 Linganore High School graduate, received The Chief Charles V. Main Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents pursuing a career in criminal justice or public safety. Ms. Inskeep attends Towson University.

Christiana Martin, a 2009 Linganore High School graduate, received The Linganore High School Alumni Scholarship awarded to Linganore High School graduates, The Workforce Development Board Youth Education Scholarship awarded to recognize deserving students who are planning to pursue a career in one of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) areas beyond high school who can demonstrate that they have encountered a barrier in their educational path, and The Rotary Club of Frederick Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents based upon an equal weighting of academic excellence, financial need and community service. Ms. Martin attends Gettysburg College.

Kathleen McConnell, a 2007 Linganore High School graduate, received The Rotary Club of Frederick Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents based upon an equal weighting of academic excellence, financial need and community service. Ms. McConnell attends American University.

Leah Morrissey, a 2008 Linganore High School graduate, received The Mary E.M. and Ruth E. Smith Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents with preference given to education majors. Ms. Morrissey attends Towson University.

Hillary Piccerillo, a 2009 Linganore High School graduate, received The Ralph and Annabelle Lenhart Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents, with preference given to students studying the building trades, agriculture, animal science, or architecture. Ms. Piccerillo attends Juniata College.

Olivia Price, a 2009 Linganore High School graduate, received The Candace Gove Kakel Memorial Scholarship awarded to Linganore High School graduating seniors. Ms. Price attends Dickinson College.

Audrey Richardson, a 2009 Linganore High School graduate, received The Lisa A. Orndorff Lajewski Memorial Scholarship awarded to graduates of Brunswick High School or members of All Saints’ Episcopal Church. Ms. Richardson attends Shepherd University.

Seth Rinker, a 2009 Linganore High School graduate, received The Linganore High School Alumni Scholarship awarded to Linganore High School graduates. Mr. Rinker attends Hood College.

Hannah Sterling, a 2008 Linganore High School graduate, received The Rotary Club of Frederick Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents based upon an equal weighting of academic excellence, financial need and community service. Ms. Sterling attends Wells College.

Cassidy Stoner, a 2009 Linganore High School graduate, received The Charles Thomas and Mary Ellen Main Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents who show financial need, and academic promise. Ms. Stoner attends Arcadia University.

Allison Wiles, a 2008 Linganore High School graduate, received The Martha Murphy Virts Nursing Scholarship awarded to nursing majors, and The Jacob W. Hubble Memorial Scholarship awarded to Frederick County residents with preference given to Linganore High School and Oakdale High School graduates and to those who have participated in the welding program at Frederick County Public Schools’ Career and Technology Center. Ms. Wiles attends Frederick Community College.

Since 1986, the Community Foundation has worked with individuals, families, businesses, associations, and nonprofits to establish charitable funds that benefit a variety of causes, including 195 scholarship funds. The Community Foundation of Frederick County Universal Comprehensive Scholarship Application for the 2010-2011 academic year will be available beginning December 15, 2009 at www.cffredco.org.
