Recent Donation from
Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick Fund Supports Safe Kids Frederick
County
October 13, 2009: A
recent $1,000 donation from the Community Foundation’s Kiwanis Club of
Suburban Frederick Fund to Safe Kids Frederick County will support
programs designed to reduce childhood accidental injuries and deaths
in Frederick County.
The donation was made at a recent Kiwanis Club meeting where Safe Kids
representatives Nancy Boyd, Cindy Bowers, and Barbara Wagner shared
the goals of Safe Kids Frederick County with Club members. “Safe Kids
is the only grassroots, long-term effort dedicated solely to
preventing unintentional injury – the number one killer of children 14
and under,” said Cindy Bowers, Co-Coordinator.
Safe Kids Frederick County is one of over 400 local organizations
affiliated with Safe Kids Worldwide, Bowers said. Led by the Frederick
County Health Department and Frederick Memorial Hospital, it has been
offering services in Frederick County for over 10 years. Its mission
is to prevent unintentional injuries through a coordinated program of
public awareness, education, legislative action, enforcement, and
access to low cost safety products.
The Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick has been an active supporter of
the Safe Kids Coalition since it was established nearly fifteen years
ago and has given hands-on support as well as financial contributions,
Bowers said. “We are extremely grateful for their support and the role
they have played in the Coalition’s successful efforts to prevent
injuries in children.”
The Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick Fund was established to support
the Club’s charitable activities, particularly among Frederick
County’s children and senior citizens. “Our Fund at the Community
Foundation enables us to provide financial support to such worthy
organizations as Safe Kids,” said Dave Maloney, Kiwanis Club
President. “ We are pleased to make a difference in the lives of
children.”
