$3 Million Bequest to Community
Foundation Establishes New Fund
August 26, 2009: A $3 million bequest left to the Community Foundation by the late Marybell Everhart of Frederick has created The Dr. David Everhart, Jr. and Marybell C. Everhart Charitable Fund which will provide financial support to The Church of the Transfiguration in Braddock Heights.
“We were humbled by the trust Mrs. Everhart placed in the Community Foundation when we were notified of her generous bequest,” said President Elizabeth Y. Day. “Sadly, we did not get a chance to know this remarkable woman during her lifetime. She obviously had a profound commitment to helping others and we are pleased she thought to turn to the Community Foundation to ensure that her charitable intentions would be carried out.”
Marybell Everhart passed away in January, 2008, at the age of 92. A quiet, unassuming woman who was married to prominent Frederick dentist Dr. David Everhart for nearly 50 years, she quietly went about her life enjoying gardening, reading, and oil painting both during her marriage and after her beloved husband passed away in 1984. Dr. and Mrs. Everhart attended The Church of the Transfiguration in Braddock Heights each summer for many years, said Reverend Henry Sabetti, and parishoner Sue Wirths and other church members continued to visit her even after she stopped attending when her husband died. “She always had something kind to say,” Wirths said.
Reverend Sabetti said that the entire congregation was surprised when they learned of The Dr. David Everhart, Jr. and Marybell C. Everhart Charitable Fund that will support The Church of the Transfiguration far into the future. “Mrs. Everhart’s kindness will benefit generations to come. What an amazing legacy.”
Leaving a lasting legacy of giving through a planned gift is one of the many ways generous donors like the late Marybell Everhart depend upon The Community Foundation of Frederick County to fulfill their philanthropic goals.
