Claggett Jones Civic Community Scholarship Awarded to Brunswick High School Graduate

August 7, 2009: Brunswick High School graduate Jenilyn Powers has been named the first recipient of The Community Foundation’s Claggett Jones Civic Community Scholarship. A member of both the Brunswick varsity softball and volleyball teams, Jenilyn was also involved in the Best Buddies Club, a club that provides one-to-one friendships with disabled peers, and volunteered at the CMAA Youth League and Brunswick Little League. Jenilyn will study Political Science and Business at Towson University this fall.

Established by his family, The Claggett Jones Civic Community Scholarship honors the memory of the late Claggett Jones, a well-known community activist who passed away in 2004. The Fund provides grants and scholarships that encourages community advocacy, promotes recreational bicycle riding and educates the community about government affairs.

Claggett’s wife, Jean Jones, said that she and her family agree that financial assistance is imperative for students to achieve their educational goals, especially during these tough times. “Jenilyn was very active with community service during her high school career,” says Mrs. Jones. “My daughters and I felt really good that the scholarship was awarded to Jenilyn. We know she will appreciate it.”
