Community Foundation’s Larson Scholarship Awarded
to Walkersville High School Graduate Charlotte Thompson

August 6, 2008: The Community Foundation of Frederick County is pleased to announce that the first scholarship from The Edgar and Mildred Larson Scholarship Fund has been awarded to Charlotte Thompson. A 2007 graduate of Walkersville High School, Ms. Thompson currently attends Frederick Community College studying agriculture business. She is past president of the Career and Tech Future Farmers Association and the Frederick County Dairy Club, and she is a former Frederick County and Maryland Dairy Princess.

Ms. Thompson says she is thankful for the financial support from The Edgar and Mildred Larson Scholarship Fund. “Without the help of this scholarship, I could not attend college and pursue my aspirations to excel in an agri-business career,” she said.

The desire to help others with their educational goals and a lifelong commitment to education led Edgar “Bud” and Mildred Larson to establish The Edgar and Mildred Larson Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation. By providing scholarships for Frederick County residents attending Frederick Community College, the Larsons feel they can honor their commitment to education in a special way.

“This is an important way for us to help students to begin their education at Frederick Community College. We are pleased to be able to continue helping others for years to come,” said Mr. and Mrs. Larson.

Since 1986, generous donors have turned to the credibility and expertise of The Community Foundation of Frederick County to make their charitable dreams a reality by establishing funds, or adding to existing funds, that provide scholarships to deserving students and grants to worthy nonprofits. To date, the Community Foundation has given back more than $19 million to the community.
