New Scholarship Fund Honors Memory of Walkersville FFA's Clayton Lenhart

June 12, 2008: Clayton Lenhart was an active member of the Frederick County community, a man who created positive and lasting change in the lives of those he touched. A 1978 Walkersville High School graduate, Clayton was a member of both the Woodsboro and New Midway Volunteer Fire Departments and past president of the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Central Maryland Antique Tractors Club, the Heart of Maryland Tractor Pullers, the Frederick County Farm Museum, the Sons of the American Legion, the Walkersville FFA Alumni Association, and President of the Maryland FFA Alumni Association.

The Walkersville FFA was especially important to Clayton, said membership chairman Kathryn Albaugh, who noted that he helped to coach FFA teams for career development events. “He firmly believed in developing a student’s potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education – the mission of the FFA. Clayton was so supportive of the kids.”

That is why when Clayton Lenhart suddenly passed away in February of this year at the age of 47, the Walkersville FFA Alumni Association decided to honor Clayton’s memory by establishing The Clayton Lenhart Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Community Foundation of Frederick County. The Fund will provide scholarships to former members of the Walkersville FFA who are attending a two- or four-year college or trade or technical school.

“Clayton was a lifetime supporter of the FFA. He would be proud to know that his legacy of giving back continues through The Clayton Lenhart Memorial Scholarship Fund,” Ms. Albaugh said. “He was just a super guy.”

Those who want to honor Clayton Lenhart’s memory by helping students attain their educational goals may make a secure, online donation to The Clayton Lenhart Memorial Scholarship Fund.  To do so, click here. Checks made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County may also be mailed to 312 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Memorial funds are one of the many ways The Community Foundation of Frederick County transforms the unique charitable dreams of individuals, families and organizations into the reality of charitable funds supporting a range of worthy causes. Over one-fourth of the funds held by the Community Foundation honor the memories of deceased loved ones by continuing to touch lives in meaningful ways in their names. To date, the Community Foundation has provided more than $17 million in grants and scholarships throughout Frederick County.
