Friends of Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Home Fund Receives Significant Donation

May 12, 2008: Woodsboro native and former Frederick County State’s Attorney, Lawrence A. “Tommy” Dorsey, Jr. recently donated $50,000 to the Community Foundation’s Friends of Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Home Fund to build and name the chapel in the new nursing center on the grounds of these County-run facilities. The donation is made in honor of his late father, former County Commissioner Lawrence A. “Lou” Dorsey, Sr., late mother Pauline, and late sister, Doris Dorsey Remsberg, past principal of Rock Creek School.

Mr. Dorsey said his desire to honor his family and to recognize the significance of both facilities in the lives of Frederick County residents prompted the donation. He said his father worked tirelessly during his tenure as County Commissioner to ensure that Citizens Nursing Home, as it was formerly called, would be built and that his mother had supported his father’s efforts every step of the way. “It was my father’s most important accomplishment. My sister and I talked about this before she died and we felt this chapel will represent what Citizens and Montevue is all about – caring and concern for others.”

Both Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Home have been serving Frederick County citizens and seniors for decades. Citizens Care provides short and long-term rehabilitative care, and Montevue Home is an assisted living facility currently serving 60 residents. An expansion and renovation of both facilities is presently underway to better serve Frederick County residents.

The Friends of Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Home Fund will provide for small capital purchases, said Don Linton and Charles Trunk, community businessmen and former Citizens Care board members who established the Fund with the Community Foundation. They have also created The Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Home Fund to provide additional funding to supplement patient care.

“Tommy’s donation is indicative of the kind of broad community support that the renovation and expansion project has,” Mr. Linton and Mr. Trunk said. “Supporting these planned new facilities is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for not only the citizens of Frederick County to become involved, but for Frederick County government to show its commitment to providing the highest quality care in state-of-the-art facilities for residents of Frederick County.”

Mr. Linton said that those who wish to support the project may make a secure, online donation to The Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Home Fund and The Friends of Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Home Fund. Checks, made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County, with the Fund’s name inserted in the memo line, may be mailed to The Community Foundation of Frederick County, 312 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701.
