Margaret Brust Nursing Scholarship Awarded to Jennifer Krietz

August 5, 2008: The Community Foundation of Frederick County is pleased to announce that Jennifer Krietz has been awarded the first Margaret E. Brust Nursing Scholarship.

Ms. Krietz, a 2007 Catoctin High School graduate, will be pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse at Frederick Community College. “My dream will now be realized, thanks to The Margaret E. Brust Nursing Scholarship. I am very thankful,” she said.

The Margaret E. Brust Nursing Scholarship honors the late Margaret Brust, who worked for many years as a private duty nurse, and at Frederick Memorial Hospital and Vindabona Nursing Home. She also helped to organize the first Auxiliary at the Meridian Nursing Center (now College View) and served as its president. Her son, Charles, and his wife, Bette, created the Fund to honor Margaret’s legacy of bettering the lives of her patients, family, and friends with a kind word, skilled hands, and a compassionate heart by awarding scholarships to graduates of Frederick County high schools who are pursuing a degree in nursing.

Since 1986, The Community Foundation of Frederick County has provided more than $17 million in scholarships to area students who might otherwise not be able to attend college or trade school and grants to area nonprofits serving a variety of community needs. This tremendous accomplishment is a direct result of generous donors who touch the future with each donation, leaving a legacy of positive impact and lasting change.
