2nd Annual Brady West Memorial Walk to Benefit Community Foundation Fund

October 29, 2008: Rain or shine, the community will gather to honor the memory of young Brady West at the 2nd Annual Brady West Memorial Walk on Sunday, November 9, at the Thurmont Community Park. The Walk will benefit The Brady West Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Brady West was born to Thurmont’s Jaime Sweeney and Johnny West on Nov. 9, 2006. Sadly, he passed away on March 23, 2007, but the memory of his easy-going nature, beautiful blue eyes, and infectious giggle still remains with everyone who met him. 

The 2nd Annual Brady West Memorial Walk on November 9 will honor what would have been Brady’s second birthday. Registration for the Walk will begin at 1:00 p.m. A $10 registration fee will be charged. The Walk will start at 2:00 p.m. and will consist of three laps around the park’s Nature Trail. After his death, Jaime Sweeney and Johnny West wanted to keep the joyful spirit of Brady’s memory alive while helping others at the same time. In doing so, they established The Brady West Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Community Foundation of Frederick County. The Fund will help graduates of Catoctin High School to pursue a post-secondary education at a college or trade school of their choice. In its first year, The Brady West Memorial Scholarship Fund awarded two scholarships to deserving Catoctin High School graduates.

Memorial scholarship funds are one of the many ways The Community Foundation of Frederick County transforms the unique charitable dreams of individuals, families and organizations into the reality of charitable funds supporting a range of worthy causes. Over one-fourth of the funds held by the Community Foundation honor the memories of deceased loved ones by continuing to touch lives in meaningful ways in their names. To date, the Community Foundation has provided more than $19 million in grants and scholarships.
