December 7, 2008: The Community Foundation of Frederick County is pleased to announce that beginning December 15th scholarship applications are available for the 2009-2010 academic year. By completing one Community Foundation Universal Scholarship Application, applicants will be considered for more than 100 available scholarships. All guidelines and eligibility requirements are listed on the application.

Students about to complete their senior year of high school, students already enrolled in a trade school, college or university, and non-traditional students over the age of 21 are eligible to apply. Scholarships are for residents of Frederick County, Maryland, studying on a full-time basis, unless otherwise noted in a specific scholarship description. All students are encouraged to apply.

In addition to downloading the Community Foundation Universal Scholarship Application, a copy may also be obtained at the guidance office of local high schools and colleges. Applications are also available at the Community Foundation’s office at 312 East Church Street, Frederick.

Completed Community Foundation Universal Scholarship Applications are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2009, at the Community Foundation’s office. Applications with all necessary attachments received after the submission deadline will not be considered.

So that students and families can learn more about the scholarship application process, the Community Foundation will hold two convenient, one-hour Saturday programs in January. “How to Apply for Community Foundation Scholarships” will provide useful information on guidelines and scholarship-specific criteria. The first program will be held on Saturday, January 17, 11 a.m. to 12 noon in the Community Room of the C. Burr Artz Public Library, 110 East Patrick Street. The second program will be held in the Community Room of the Thurmont Regional Library, 11 Water Street, on Saturday, January 24, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Seating is limited and pre-registration for either or both programs is suggested by calling the Community Foundation at 301.695.7660 or by emailing ds.assistant@cffredco.org.
