Frederick Giving Project Fund Provides $10K Grant to Second Chances Garage

Frederick Giving Project Second Chances Garage grant Dec. 20133FREDERICK, MD - December 27, 2013: The fourth grant from The Frederick Giving Project Fund was recently presented to Second Chances Garage. The fund is one of more than 640 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Second Chances Garage is a local nonprofit with a passion for cars and a mission to help individuals and families become independent by providing safe and reliable transportation. Since April 2010, Second Chances Garage has placed more than 40 vehicles with qualified applicants, creating long-term job security, the ability to acquire more education, and greater stability, leading to improved life circumstances.

“This grant will help further our mission in 2014,” said Rick Trawick, Executive Director, Second Chances Garage. “We are receiving more requests for refurbished vehicles, and the cost to refurbish continues to go up. In addition, the reduced-cost repair program is taking off now that we have a mechanic on staff, and the grant will help support this service as well.”

The Frederick Giving Project, established in 2009, is a local membership organization that combines the monetary contributions with the talents of its 100+ members to support emerging nonprofits in Frederick County. With each annual unrestricted grant, the group also provides volunteer support to the grantee, through days of service, skills-based volunteering, or technical assistance.
