Great Frederick Fair Receives Grant for Agri-Theatre

Sukup agri-TheatreFREDERICK, MD – December 26, 2013:The Great Frederick Fair recently received a $650 grant from The AG-C.I.T.E. Fund, one of more than 640 components funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County. AG-C.I.T.E. stands for “Agricultural Community Interactive Teaching Experience.”

The grant was used to support the Sukup Agri-Theatre at the City Streets, County Roads exhibit during The Great Frederick Fair in September 2013. The Agri-Theatre, converted from a 24 foot diameter grain bin, was donated by the Iowa-based Sukup Manufacturing Company and was a new addition to the already popular “City Streets, Country Roads” exhibit visited by more than 45,000 fair attendees. This new exhibit serves to educate the public on grain production in Maryland, and specifically Frederick County. During the 151st Great Frederick Fair in September 2013, 30 Frederick County Public School (FCPS) teachers used the Agri-Theatre as a classroom for Professional Teacher Development Day. In addition, FCPS students of all ages participated in hands-on activities related to the growing stages of wheat, corn, and soybean crops.

The AG-C.I.T.E Fund was established in 2006 to promote agriculture and provide educational activities benefiting all ages in Frederick County. “The Great Frederick Fair is Frederick County’s largest agricultural classroom,” said Karen Crum, Social Media Planner and Public Relations Coordinator for The Great Frederick Fair. “The City Streets, Country Roads exhibit serves as a hub for agriculture education, and the Sukup Agri-Theatre is a new, unique, and eye-catching display that will attract new visitors.”

As a leader in grant and scholarship funding, The Community Foundation of Frederick County has given back more than $34 million to the community since 1986. To learn more about the Community Foundation call 301.695.7660.
