Community Foundation Presents FY2017 Strategic Grants to Area Nonprofits

FREDERICK, MD – October 24, 2016: During its recent FY2017 strategic grantsmaking cycle, The Community Foundation of Frederick County provided $401,249.96 to 18 area nonprofits dedicated to improving lives and enhancing Frederick County. These grants focus on the Community Foundation’s strategic grant areas supporting children and youth, health care, and basic human needs.

Strategic grant funding supporting school readiness for children birth through age 5 was provided to:

Blessings in a Backpack: $7,500 for weekend backpacks of supplemental nutrition for pre-K children attending Orchard Grove, Monocacy, Glade, and Waverley Elementary Schools.

The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center: $2,940 for ArtStart program.

Family Partnership of Frederick County: $45,000 for Bright Futures 2017 program.

Frederick County Public Libraries: $11,000 for Family Tunes & Tales program.

The Housing Authority of the City of Frederick: $18,080 for Neighborhood Support for School Readiness program.

Mental Health Association of Frederick County: $15,000 for Healthy Families Frederick program.

Strategic grant funding supporting health needs was provided to:

Asian American Center: $4,600 for reducing pediatric asthma emergency room visits.

Frederick Community Action Agency: $15,000 for primary health care services for low income residents and $15,000 for school-based health care.

Mental Health Association of Frederick County: $47,629.96 for crisis counseling services.

Mission of Mercy: $10,000 for dental care and $25,000 for health care services.

The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs: $20,000 for dental care direct services and $15,000 for prescription assistance program.

Seton Center: $20,000 for DePaul Dental Program direct services.

Trinity Pastoral Counseling Center: $5,000 for counseling services.

The Wells House, Inc. @ Gale Recovery: $15,000 for recovery counseling services.

Strategic grant funding supporting basic human needs was provided to:

Advocates for Homeless Families: $15,000 for partial case manager salaries and $1,800 for transportation and childcare assistance for program participants.

Frederick Community Action Agency: $10,200 for Housing First program.

Frederick Rescue Mission: $20,000 for Changed Life Recovery program case manager salaries and $25,000 for Faith House case manager salary.

Heartly House: $12,000 for rental assistance.

Interfaith Housing Alliance: $500 for client housing, credit, and budget counseling.

The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs: $25,000 for housing stabilization services.
