Kehne Scholarship Fund Established at Community Foundation
FREDERICK, MD – December 29, 2015: To honor the memory of two Frederick County teachers, The Harold D. and Elizabeth S. Kehne Scholarship Fund has been established by their son, David A. Kehne and his husband, Robert A. Funk. The fund becomes one of more than 675 component funds managed by The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The fund will provide scholarships to graduates of Frederick High School or Governor Thomas Johnson High School pursuing a career in education. Preference is given to students attending Towson University or University of Maryland, College Park, or one of these educational institution's extension campuses.
Mrs. Kehne taught at several Frederick County schools and spent most of her career as a teacher at Rock Creek Center. Mr. Kehne taught at Middletown High School and at New Market and West Frederick Middle Schools.
"My parents had strong work ethics, believing greatly in service to others and in the power of public education to help young people develop into self-sufficient citizens," said David Kehne. "They appreciated the many opportunities they had in their work with young people. This fund honors their work and the work of their colleagues, past and present, in Frederick County."
The Community Foundation works with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to establish charitable funds that provide grants to area nonprofits serving the community and scholarships to students. Since 1986, more than $42 million has been provided.
