Ritchie Charitable Fund Will Benefit YMCA of Frederick County

FREDERICK, MD – December 23, 2015: Described by a family friend as "the last of the titans because he's given back to so many organizations," Ritchie.cropped.resizedM. Robert Ritchie, Jr. has, through estate provisions, created The M. Robert Ritchie, Jr. Charitable Gift Fund. The fund becomes one of more than 675 funds managed by The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

The fund will benefit YMCA of Frederick County, and the YMCA board may use grants from the fund at its discretion for programs benefitting children from low income families. This is the second fund Mr. Ritchie established with the Community Foundation that provides assistance for children. The M. Robert Ritchie Endowment Fund for Heartly House's Youth Programs supports child abuse prevention programs, emergency shelter, community education, and counseling for children under age 18.

Mr. Ritchie was a well-known Frederick County philanthropist, and worked to help support his family from a very early age. After graduating from Frederick High School, he began selling insurance, and then started Ritchie Associates Insurance Company. The company eventually operated 54 multi-state offices. He is also known for developing Holly Hills Country Club, the first of its kind in Frederick County. Mr. Ritchie will be remembered as someone who recognized that many people in the community needed a helping hand. His generous support of many local nonprofits created big impact in the community, and he will continue to do so through his two Community Foundation funds.

A charitable fund established through a bequest is one of the many ways to create a legacy and be remembered forever through grants and scholarships after one's lifetime.
