Community Foundation Welcomes New Trustees
FREDERICK, MD – December 9, 2015: The Community Foundation of Frederick County welcomes four new members to its board of trustees: Michael Cumberland, Thomas E. Lynch, III, Esq., Gregory Powell, Ph.D., and Nancy Motter Thrasher.
Michael Cumberland, of Middletown, is Vice President with Keller Stonebraker Insurance. His career with Keller Stonebraker Insurance started in 1991, and in 1993 he earned the designation of Chartered Financial Consultant. In 2007, he was named Principal. Mr. Cumberland's volunteer work includes Rotary Club of Frederick, where he is currently president-elect and Frederick County Healthcare Coalition board member. He has also supported fundraising efforts of Alzheimer Association, Western Maryland Region.
Thomas E. Lynch, III, Esq., of Frederick, is Principal with Miles & Stockbridge, P.C. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Maryland State Bar Association, and Frederick County Bar Association, and has served on numerous committees with each organization. Mr. Lynch has extensive volunteer participation with Frederick County organizations, including long involvement with Frederick County Chamber of Commerce since 1997, serving as a member of the board and then Board Chairman from 2012-2014. He has also served on the boards of YMCA of Frederick County, Daybreak Adult Day Services, Inc., and Frederick Church of the Brethren Learning Center, as well as many community based committees and task forces.
Gregory Powell, Ph.D., of Frederick, is co-founder and Principal of Powell Management Services and Frederick Psychology Center. His current volunteer work includes Rotary Club of Frederick, current board president of Clover Hill Civic Association, and board member of Frederick Mutual Insurance Company. Other volunteer service includes serving on the board of Frederick Memorial Hospital and Mental Health Association of Frederick County.
Nancy Motter Thrasher, of Frederick, is President of CBF Business Solutions, Inc., and has served in that capacity since 1998. Her volunteer activities include Rotary Club of Frederick, having served as President; Chairman of the Board, YMCA of Frederick County; past board member with Historical Society of Frederick County, and a member of Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She is also an active member of Frederick Woman's Civic Club.
"The Community Foundation's board of trustees brings extensive experience from a variety of business areas that greatly benefits the organization," said Debra Borden, 2015-2016 Chairman. "Their combined strengths and expertise will help us create even greater impact in the community over this next year."
The Community Foundation of Frederick County, a public charity, was founded in 1986 by a group of community citizens as a conduit for donors to fulfill their charitable dreams by establishing permanent, named, component funds that award grants and scholarships to nonprofits and deserving students. To date, the Community Foundation has more than 675 funds that support health care, the arts, human service agencies, animal welfare groups, environmental organizations, faith-based organizations, educational institutions, scholarship programs, and other civic causes. Since its inception, more than $43 million has been given back to the Frederick County community.
