Community Foundation Presents Dance Scholarships to Area Students
FREDERICK, MD – August 3, 2015: The Community Foundation of Frederick County recently presented seven dance scholarships totaling $3,565 from two funds to talented young dancers, in support of advanced dance study and training.
The Frederick Arts Council Dance Scholarship, provided through The Frederick Arts Council Dance Scholarship Fund, provides scholarships for private instruction for students. The fund was created in 2010 to support the art and study of dance and support the rich heritage of dance in Frederick County. Scholarship recipients are: Maria Applegate, Sophia Bodine, Mackenzie Davis, Katelyn Davis, Olivia Kuehner, and Taylor Wood.
The Thomas F. Waters Memorial Scholarship, provided through The Thomas F. Waters Memorial Fund, provides dance scholarships to students who are enrolled in dance instruction in a Frederick County dance school and/or dance company. The fund is in memory of Tom Waters, a well-known local dance instructor who dedicated his life to teaching for more than 50 years. The scholarship recipient is Bradley Garcia.
These dance scholarships not only benefit the community but invest in the youth of Frederick County, enabling them to pursue their dreams and achieve admirable goals. Since 1986, generous citizens have turned to the credibility and expertise of the Community Foundation to establish funds that provide scholarships to deserving students and grants to worthy nonprofit organizations, contributing more than $42 million throughout Frederick County.
