Community Foundation Presents Peg and Orley Bourland Scholarship

FREDERICK, MD – July 29, 2015: The first scholarship from The Peg and Orley Bourland Educational Assistance Fund for Glade Valley has been BourlandScholarship.resizedpresented to Chandler Harris. The fund is one of more than 660 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Founded by Orley R. and Margaret S. Bourland with their 2008 Wertheimer Fellow for Excellence in Volunteerism award, the fund provides scholarships for post-secondary education in vocational training to the people served by Glade Valley Community Services, Inc. Mr. Harris, a graduate of Walkersville High School, will be attending Frederick Community College, majoring in construction.

By working with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to establish charitable funds that provide deserving students with scholarships, the Community Foundation is among the leading local resources to help students reach their educational goals. Since 1986, more than $42 million has been provided in educational scholarships and grants to nonprofit organizations.
