FCPS Technology Fund Grant Supports Tablets for Students
FREDERICK, MD – July 27, 2015: A $34,000 grant from The Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) Current Initiatives/Technology for Education Fund has provided funding to purchase computer tablets for elementary and middle-school students. The fund is one of more than 660 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The grant was made possible largely through the fundraising efforts of Dr. Julio Menocal, a local doctor who believes strongly in the value of education and helping students who need assistance obtain equipment that will allow them to access the internet, complete online education lessons, obtain English language proficiency, and utilize other electronic means of study that will help them succeed.
The fund was created in 2012 by FCPS to enhance the educational and/or extracurricular experiences of students. Technology needs at FCPS outpace the amount of funding available through normal sources, and the fund was established to accept private, tax-deductible donations from those wishing to support education through technology.

Since 1986, generous citizens have turned to the credibility and expertise of the Community Foundation to establish funds that provide scholarships to deserving students and grants to worthy nonprofit organizations, contributing more than $38 million throughout Frederick County.
