Becky Koontz Memorial Scholarship Fund Established at Community Foundation
FREDERICK, MD – July 9, 2015: To honor a life devoted to education, The Becky Koontz Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established by family members. The fund becomes one of more than 660 component funds managed by The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The fund will provide scholarships to Frederick County residents who are Frederick County Public School (FCPS) graduates working towards a degree in education. A career educator and administrator, Becky Koontz spent her entire career in Frederick County Public Schools teaching English at Walkersville and Catoctin High Schools. She was the Assistant Principal at Brunswick High School, and Assistant Principal and then Principal at Walkersville High School. Her final career position was Director of High Schools for FCPS.
The fund was established by William H. and Carolyn R. Koontz, Becky's brother and sister-in-law. "We wanted to honor Becky's memory," said Mr. and Mrs. Koontz. "Becky was educated in Frederick County Public Schools, and dedicated her career to teaching and mentoring Frederick County students. We wanted to honor her life and her work by helping students who wish to pursue a post-secondary degree in education."
Charitable memorial funds are one of the many ways The Community Foundation of Frederick County helps individuals, families, and organizations honor the memory of deceased loved ones by continuing to positively impact lives through grants and scholarships.
