CTC Receives Grant from Dianne C. Murphy Memorial Fund

FREDERICK, MD – July 8, 2015: The Frederick County Career and Technology Center (CTC) recently received a $2,448.80 grant from The DianneFredCoBuilders.resized C. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Fund was established in 1991 in memory of Dianne Murphy, the former President of the Frederick County Builders Association (now known as the Frederick County Building Industry Association, or FCBIA) and is one of more than 660 component funds managed by The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

The grant will support OSHA certifications by providing financial assistance towards the exam cost. Students studying in one of the construction programs offered by CTC (carpentry, HVAC, construction electricity, landscaping, masonry) are required to learn basic OSHA safety practices as part of their course work, but are encouraged to earn the OSHA certification before they graduate from high school, giving them an advantage in obtaining employment in their field of study or pursuing post-secondary education.

Since 1986, generous citizens have turned to the credibility and expertise of the Community Foundation to establish funds that provide scholarships to deserving students and grants to nonprofit organizations, contributing more than $38 million throughout Frederick County.
