Jeffy's Field Dedication Set For June 14, 2015

FREDERICK, MD – June 5, 2015: Jeffy's Field is truly a "field of dreams." The baseball diamond located at the new LOUYAA (Linganore Oakdale jeffery2Urbana Youth Athletic Association) Park in New Market, Maryland, was the vision of Jeffrey Hayek's family and is now a reality. The dedication of the field in honor and memory of the ten-year-old who loved baseball will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Please visit www.jeffysfield.com for directions.

Jeffrey Hayek was a smiling, energetic baseball competitor who lived for the big strikeout as a pitcher and first baseman. Sadly, in 2007, Jeffrey's life was cut short after blood clot complications. Jeffrey's family – his parents, Brian and Robin, and his siblings, Bailey and Evan, established The Jeffrey Hayek Memorial Fund with The Community Foundation of Frederick County to create and maintain a recreational baseball field in New Market.

The family's wish to honor their son and brother in this way has come true, after nearly eight years of planning and fundraising. The field includes brick dugouts and backstop, irrigation, batting cage and bullpen areas. It will provide a much needed athletic resource and generate huge community impact as it allows Frederick County youth to learn the game of baseball and enjoy it as Jeffrey did. "This will be the 'big diamond' Jeffrey always dreamed about," said the Hayeks. "Jeffy's Field will be a place where all children can pursue their own baseball dreams."

The Community Foundation of Frederick County is proud to be part of bringing Jeffy's Field to life. Charitable funds are one of the many ways the Community Foundation helps individuals and families honor the memory of loved ones and impact lives in meaningful ways.
