Community Foundation Seeks Nominations for the 2015 Wertheimer Fellow for Excellence in Volunteerism and Youth in Action Awards

Frederick, MD – May 11, 2015: The Community Foundation of Frederick County is accepting nominations for the 2015 Wertheimer Fellow for janExcellence in Volunteerism and Youth in Action Awards from June 1 through June 30, 2015.

The Wertheimer Fellows for Excellence in Volunteerism Awards is now in its 13th year and honors the legacy of the late Janis Miller Wertheimer, a well-known Frederick businesswoman and prolific volunteer who bequeathed the greater portion of her estate to the Community Foundation for the creation of two permanent funds. The Wertheimer Fellows program, celebrating excellence in volunteerism, is made possible through The Janis Miller Wertheimer Endowment Fund.

The Wertheimer Youth in Action Award is now in its fourth year. Youth who are positively impacting the community by volunteering their talents and energies in extraordinary ways are eligible to be nominated.

The nomination committee will review applications for both awards and evaluate the nominee's volunteer service and the organizations he or she supports, duration of involvement, and the specific actions, services and contributions that make the nominee an outstanding volunteer. They will also review how the nominee's deeds, actions, and caring have improved the community.

All recipients will be recognized at the Community Foundation's Annual Report to the Community in November 2015. Wertheimer Fellows for Excellence in Volunteerism are awarded $25,000 to establish or add to a permanent fund with the Community Foundation for the nonprofit or charitable endeavor of their choice. The Wertheimer Youth in Action honoree will receive a $1,000 grant to support a Frederick County nonprofit organization of their choice.

"The Wertheimer Fellow for Excellence in Volunteerism and the Wertheimer Youth in Action Award is the public's opportunity to nominate people who make a profound difference in the lives of others in Frederick County," said Community Foundation President and CEO Elizabeth Y. Day. "Every year the nomination committee is amazed at the positive impact the nominees are making through their selfless efforts to help others.
