Anderson Scholarship Fund Will Support Health Science Studies for Non-Traditional Students
FREDERICK, MD – April 20, 2015: With the goal of helping non-traditional students with post-secondary education, Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson have established The Arthur O. and Julane P. Anderson Scholarship Fund. The fund becomes one of more than 660 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The fund will provide scholarships for Frederick County, Maryland non-traditional students - those who have delayed enrolling in post-secondary education after graduating from high school, or who are returning to post-secondary studies after time away - to pursue a career in health sciences. Scholarship recipients may be attending Frederick Community College or another two-year or four-year college or university.
The Andersons established the fund because of their desire to help non-traditional students obtain post-secondary education. Through their respective places of employment, they met people who postponed their studies for a variety of reasons: starting a family, military service, career change, as well as other circumstances beyond their control. Knowing that it is sometimes difficult to start or return to school, the Andersons wanted to provide positive reinforcement and assistance for those pursuing education in the health sciences. It is their hope that those helped through the scholarships will gain the knowledge to be successful and in turn, help others.
Since 1986, generous citizens have turned to the credibility and expertise of the Community Foundation to establish funds that provide scholarships to deserving students and grants to worthy nonprofit organizations, contributing more than $38 million throughout Frederick County.
