The Community Foundation Accepting Dance Instruction Scholarship Applications through May 31

FREDERICK, MD – April 15, 2015: Beginning May 1 through May 30, 2015, students in kindergarten through 11th grade pursuing dance instructionThomasWaterFirstScholarship.resized (group or individual) may apply for scholarships through two funds dedicated to advancing dance study and managed by The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

The 2015 application has been changed from a paper application to an electronic application and must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on May 31, 2015. No paper applications will be accepted. The 2015 application can be found online at www.FrederickCountyGives.org/receive/scholarships. Applicants are strongly encouraged to read the "FAQ" document found at this web address, as it contains important information about applying, required documentation, and more.

The Thomas F. Waters Memorial Scholarship, provided through The Thomas F. Waters Memorial Fund, will provide dance scholarships to students between the age of 12 through 17 who are enrolled in dance instruction in a Frederick County, Maryland dance school and/or dance company. The fund is in memory of Tom Waters, a well-known local dance instructor who dedicated his life to teaching for more than 50 years.

The Frederick Arts Council Dance Scholarship, provided through The Frederick Arts Council Dance Scholarship Fund, will provide scholarships for private instruction for students in kindergarten through 11th grade. The fund was created in 2010 to support the art and study of dance and support the rich heritage of dance in Frederick County.

Since 1986, generous citizens have turned to the credibility and expertise of the Community Foundation to establish funds or add to existing funds that provide scholarships to deserving students and grants to nonprofit organizations. To date, the Community Foundation has provided more than $38 million throughout Frederick County.
