Cornpropst Scholarship Fund Established at Community Foundation

FREDERICK, MD – April 6, 2015: The generosity of a Frederick County teacher will impact students for many years to come. The late Mattie BGMattie100cropped.resizedHenderson Cornpropst made estate provisions to establish The Harry and Mattie Cornpropst Scholarship Fund, which will provide scholarships for students attending Frederick Community College who are preparing for a career in public education. The fund becomes one of more than 660 component funds managed by The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Mattie, who lived to be 100 years old, moved to Frederick County after graduating from Salisbury State College (now Salisbury University). She married Harry Cornpropst and spent the remainder of her life in Frederick County. Her career as a fourth grade teacher spanned 36 years with Frederick County Public Schools, and included North Market Street School, New Market Elementary School, and Elm Street School.

Since 1986, generous citizens have turned to the credibility and expertise of the Community Foundation to establish funds that provide scholarships to deserving students and grants to worthy nonprofit organizations, contributing more than $38 million throughout Frederick County.
